It’s Never Going To Be Too Late.
LYRICS & SONG ANALYSIS
Verse 1:
Used to keeping my music down low
The ones from way back home
because nobody knows, mm
Maybe don’t speak up as much
Hide away the things i love cause i
can’t fit into this world
Pre-chorus:
Oh how long am i supposed to hold on
I’m splitting into two
Chorus:
It’s never going to be to little too late
We don’t have to always feel this weight
None of us are mistakes
It’s never going to be to little too late
We could stand together, fight for a change
Love is all it’ll take
Verse 2:
Everytime I walk into a place
Suspicious eyes come chase
My unassuming face, mm
Maybe get myself prepared
To be asked some things out of the blue
Could only speak my truth
It’s Never Going To Be Too Late coincides with my experiences as an Asian person and the experiences of other people of color in the United States. This song examines how people of different origins and ethnicities often have to hide, change, or eliminate parts of their identity to prevent them from being personally harmed, eliminate having their actions misinterpreted, or simply fit into society. I wish to utilize this song to introduce the difficulties of living as a minority and person of color.
It’s Never Going To Be Too Late tells some of my audience that I hear their struggles while simultaneously showing some others a fraction of the things that myself and others that I identify with do to find a sense of belonging in this country.
It’s Never Going To Be Too Late intends to be a reminder to continuously educate ourselves about the experiences of others and be more consciously aware of social phenomena around us. I hope this song inspires a fight for change, noting our personal biases to create more remarkable change and sharing the insight that the only way to initiate this process is to start with ourselves.
