Put On A Show.
LYRICS & SONG ANALYSIS
Intro:
One, two, three, four
Verse 1:
Hey, look me in the eye
Can you see what’s inside
I don’t know if I’m right for trying to hide
I see, the things I can achieve
And what I strive to be
I know that all I need is to believe
Pre-chorus:
Standing on the dance floor
I move to the music and everything fades away
The center of attention
I’m confident and I’m shaking my past away
Chorus:
Cuz now I got to let go
Time to put on a show
Give them all that I know
Like it's the end of the road, the road
Said you can’t but you can, now just trust in me
Won't look back, so just don’t, let me fall
Cuz now I got to let go, oh
Time to put on a show (a show, a show, a show)
Verse 2:
I hear, blood rushing through my veins
The beat that drowns my pains
I wanna be where all my daydreams lie
I feel, like riding through the waves
My body never caves
I’m in control of me that is the key
Bridge:
Ohhhhhhhhhh
Did you, think that I, would just hide
But i’ll find, the light, through the music, every time
Put On A Show talks about the importance of finding mental fortitude and strength in pursuing one’s hobbies. I wished to use this song to inspire my audience to continue exploring and furthering what they love without worrying about other people’s perceptions about them and their actions. This song is an ode to my love for both contemporary and ballet dance, two seemingly incohesive and dramatically different styles. I think that beyond using songwriting as a form of emotional and soul therapy (as I have illustrated in the song When My Words Travel), dance, being able to follow any sort of choreography, my own or the creation of others, or even being able to immerse in moments of improvisation, is another form of therapy and creative outlet and space that allows me to release myself from my expectation and burdens.
Put On A Show describes the sense of freedom and enjoyment that I feel when dancing in the middle of a circle of people or on stage. The song describes the subtle yet mysteriously satisfying sensation of matching my movements to the music for my own enjoyment and for the entertainment of others in the audience.
